My mother told me that it takes true strength to admit when you are wrong. That not everyone has intellectual humility, instead they carry too much pride and it creates a false sense of entitlement and superiority. The person might be incorrigible. She said that people who cannot hold themselves accountable often seek information that confirms rather than challenges their behaviours. That there is no growth or character. Strong character and leadership are not defined by being infallible but rather true strength of character is revealed when a person recognizes and acknowledges his or her failures.
“The greatest glory in living lies not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall.”
Everyone and everything has flaws, and we'll all make mistakes in life. If we learn to accept this, while also acknowledging the value of failure, we might finally become comfortable with uttering those three simplistic, yet complicated words: “I was wrong.”
